UPDATE: 6/18/12 – My arm has ached all day from my elbow to my wrist. Unfortunately, it’s my drawing hand. The new strip will go up tomorrow, folks.

Get it? Because it’s a hammer! It’s blunt! To quote Paul F. Tompkins, “oh, my brain has many wrinkles.” My wife will confirm that it does indeed hurt being married to someone with my sense of humor. 😉

Hey… they do look like coffee jars dont they? I never noticed before. I understand her lack of entusiasm though. Dwarves in Elven armour?

See, listening to the hammer is bad news already.

Yeah, it’s usually the other way around if anything… and what are the odds elves are going to just happen to have something to fit a dwarf?

Well, honestly the odds are decent for a few reasons [atleast in my mind]. One, Magic can do wonders. Two, if they have a few days an elven smith could probably make some better armor. Three, something tells me anything magical is better than what she has. Four, if they do not have it I am sure they can point her to the right place to get it. Five, they found armor for Jaine and Dhur on the road which leads me to believe there is plenty of inter-race trade in the area. Oh and Six, Jaine is the daughter of the Magus of the Realm [plus her Step-mom seems to have some connections] ,..Becky is Jaines traveling companion,..vis a vie I am sure the Elves will be more than happy to help the group out with whatever is needed [its good to be the King,..or in this case the friend of the Princess].

You forgot point seven; perhaps the artist would like to draw her wearing something different after all this time. I’d say her odds are better than you might expect! ;P

A fifth of what? Better have brought enough for the rest of the class…

On point 5 it is true that they found equipment for the others on the road but the elven lands are closed off. That would make it less likely to find equipment for other races in the local shops.

Remember the trouble they had coming in before the guards found out who Jaine was.

Oh, as a question, will the hammer be getting an entry on the cast page?

The hammer is right. Something fancier would be more memoriable. But you don’t want to sacrifice function for fashion. Take Xena’s armor. Fashionable and functional, though I don’t think Becky wants to go with bronze and leather.

Xena’s armor… How much protection did it really offer to her head and limbs? Well, at least it wasn’t a chainmail bikini.

Well here’s hoping they don’t give her something with spikes, spines or other foolishness.

@Nobody: To be fair, that was the guard post on the border with orc lands, and the rules seemed to have the basic assumption that nothing good comes out of orc lands. Borders with nations they have friendlier relations with may be a little more open – not necessarily entirely welcoming, but at least not a case of “No entry, no exceptions… well, okay, we’ll make an exception for the Archmage’s daughter.”

@Spammy: Xena’s armour actually isn’t too bad, for the period. The armour of typical heavy infantry from the time generally consisted of breastplate and leather skirt, mail shirt, or scale hauberk, helmet, shield, and possibly greaves – they didn’t really go for arm armour back then. And Xena’s not heavy infantry, so her armour is going to be lighter. She could probably have done with a light helmet, but that’s the sort of thing that you’d generally only wear when you were expecting trouble, and she might have decided it just wasn’t worth carrying around.

Ah, demanding weapons. You know you’re in for rough days when your blade demanded dinner and flowers after a particularly gory battle.

It’s still better than hearing, “Hello, my name is Maurice. I’ll be your sacrificial dagger for this evening’s events. Just make yourself comfortable up there on the altar, and we’ll be with you shortly.”

Talk about being married to your religion…Becky and Hammer are already going at it like an old married couple (or a couple of dwarven newlyweds…or dwarven friends…or dwarven business associates…or dwarven total strangers…)
