318 – Lootin’ Time!

I realized something today: Dhur and the rest of the crew have a hard time with magic items. They either get stolen from them, destroyed, or (often times) forget that they have them. For instance, someone pointed out that Dhur is currently using Jaine's Cloak of Second Chances as a kilt and could have used it to go back in time and fix everything. This is true and there is a completely valid reason why he didn't.

I forgot I gave the cloak to Jaine in the first place.

This happens a lot in my D&D campaign. I'll often give out magic items that at the time seem really cool to me and to the player receiving them. Then we fast forward three or four games sessions and they trot out said magic item and I'll frown in puzzlement and ask when they got that. My players then remind me that I gave it out in the first place.

This is one of the curses of ADHD: it makes being the DM just a tiny bit harder.

See you all Friday,

  1. Now thats proper barbarian thinking, the guys dead, minions scattered, get the axe and crowbar ready. If its not on fire, its yours!

  2. Could be worse, my old DM would use the “Deck of Magic Items” and “deck of Treasures” to offer up loot just so he could remember what he gave us [he photocopied each card like 4 times so he could sometimes drop 2 of the same item in treasure and could give us the cards] because he gave us the card. I was one of the few people who actually used his non-weapon/non-armor magic items because the other players all forgot they had the other stuff,……

  3. I called it on the pants! Be sad if all they can find are a few robes, a kilt and one of those curse sex changing belts.

  4. My gaming group woulda paid you money to DM us dude…no offense. A DM who forgets what he gives out? SWEET! And doesn’t pull the “expiration date” card??? ♥♥♥!

  5. I’ve got a better reason why Dhur didn’t use Jaine’s Cloak of Second Chances: because that’s not what he’s wearing as a kilt. The Cloak of Second Chances has been in the hands of snake cultists since strip #98.

The red cloak there was purchased from Blue-Hand Troll, which, if he got Jaine’s order in #149 correct, is an ‘elf cloak’ (possibly a cloak of elvenkind or something similar).
