I dunno. I can’t help but feel this little idea may come back to haunt the Unnamed Royal Adventuring Company #47.
Mind you; I speak from experience of third edition D&D and many a heroic adventure series when I was but a wee lad.

Uh, Jaine, is your intel perhaps a wee bit out of date?

Don’t discount the power of a rubber band and a paperclip. I know of a staff sergeant that is now a specialist (E6 to an E4) because he blinded a private with a paperclip that was fired from a rubber band.

Kobolds are dangerous when you enter their territory. Unlike goblins and orcs, kobolds are not stupid, so they make sure that any invaders’ height works against them, that there are traps to set off, and they never stand and fight without overwhelming numerical superiority. Otherwise, they prefer to ambush, retreat, regroup, rinse, repeat.

Jaine has convinced Cheef to forgo all of those advantages. And even hasty field fortifications can give defenders a powerful advantage, something that Val’Dhar will have on their side, as Jaine will warn them that Cheef is coming to them … unless some other advisor comes along and suggests he do something more prudent.

True enough. But I think we’re forgetting that Cheef is the Kobold equivalent of Julius Caesar and was smart enough and tough enough to build an empire from the scratch in the first place. Even with being talked into being bolder then he normally would be and even with the Elves being forewarned it’s entirely possible that he will get a lot further than anyone (Including himself when he’s in his normal mind) would have thought and that the Elves may wake up and find themselves with the need to learn Kobold. @_@

Y’know, whether he’s successful or not, I’m not sure I’d want to be Jaine on the day that crown falls off or is taken from him. >_>

Arkanabar on March 27, 2014 @ 8:35 pm

The crown is cursed, which makes it annoyingly difficult to get rid of. And as for Cheef, he’s reached the venerable (for a kobold) age of twelve, which goes a fair way in explaining why kobold empires come and go like sunshine in springtime, and last about as long.
