281 – Free Drinks for all War Heroes!

This begs the question: there can’t be two Dhurs out there, one a war hero and the other our Dhur… right? πŸ˜‰

See you all on Wednesday and Happy Halloween!

Nah…what are the odds, right? Unless General Dhur inspired many orcs to naming their sons in honour of him.
Still, Dhur has proven himself full of surprises.

Am I the only one who think “His money is no good here” means that he used counterfeit money before and has made an enemy or at least has accrued a huge debt?

Rob on October 31, 2011 @ 12:38 pm

@Hobgoblinoid – It’s actually an old saying that means, “I won’t take your money, so you have no choice but to accept my hospitality.” It essentially means that the drinks were on the house.

Hobgoblinoid on October 31, 2011 @ 1:28 pm

@Rob, I know that is normally the meaning, but this is Dhur we are talking about. And things do not go that way for him. So it could mean (if you chose it to mean it) that his money is not trusted there because he bought drinks for his men and himself and paid with bad money. That was just what I expected to happen. But if you say it didn’t, then Dhur actually has something going his way.

It just seems too easy your way. And lets face it, things have been too easy for him lately. He needs some angry bartender/debt collector coming after him. Why else would he have left his homeland?

OK, I’ll be quiet and will slink back to my cave.

Gourd on October 31, 2011 @ 1:42 pm

Now, I’ve never heard anyone actually say that phrase in anything other than a western, and it always seemed to be NEGATIVE meaning. As in get out, we won’t even take your money.

It even turns up in a Jack London book from /1907/ with that connotation. They walk into a bar, ask to be served, and are refused service even when they try to pay DOUBLE the price for drinks.

“Your money is no good here.” Search for that and Jack London in Google Books.

Heh. So I just assumed that Jaine was being snarky.

I guess it is comedy gold either way.

Rob on October 31, 2011 @ 2:52 pm

@Hobgoblinoid: No slinking necessary and please don’t be quiet! πŸ™‚ I provided the definition because it dawned on me that it was possible that particular phrase was no longer a valid one, similar to other phrases like “You sound like a broken record” – there are no records anymore (not in great quantities anyway) and for a lot of people born after 1980, that phrase no longer makes sense. Kind of like that. Didn’t mean to jump at anyone there. πŸ™‚
@Gourd: Yes, that was a bit of snark from Jaine, but also a measure of relief – did you see how much Dhur drank? Imagine having to foot that bill!

Mike Lewis on October 31, 2011 @ 8:49 pm

Dhur certainly is full of surprises. I wouldn’t put it past him to leave his homeland to avoid hero worship. Too much attention can be bad.

Infamous Nefarious on October 31, 2011 @ 10:55 pm

MAYBE he’s a hero…. or MAAAAYBE during this battle he did something so vile, heinous, and in such gross violation of even orccish war dispensations that anyone even proved of having been in 5 ft of him can be tried as an accomplice or even of aiding and abedding (spelling?) a known war criminal or perhaps traitor/defector/sabateur….? In short, someone in so much trouble just looking at him without trying to apprehend/execute him gets YOU locked up too….

Hence Master Yorg doesn’t want Dhur’s money so that he can try and forget he was even in arms reach of him….?

Oddly enough? I know a Master Joerg….

I have a hard time believing this Dhur is a general. Then again, Jar Jar was named a general and Dhur is significantly more competent.

Mongoose on November 1, 2011 @ 5:12 pm

Jar jar also wound up being a seneter

Raven Prometheus on November 1, 2011 @ 5:22 pm

Which powers he used to give emergency powers to Palpatine, who used those powers to enslave an entire galaxy. Just saying….

FSilvermane on November 1, 2011 @ 8:28 pm

Or he could be Dhur son of Dhur,..his daddy could be General Dhur the Unstoppable,..hero to millions,..savior of his people,..and father of a bumbling drunk who somehow always comes out on top despite the fact he is functionally ignorant. Notice I do not say stupid,….ignorant just means he has little book knowledge,…lol
