687 – Maybe the spell’s called Badgering the Dead?

For all the D&D grognards out there: yes, I know that the rules state that Speak with Dead can be cast again in 10 days time after being cast by someone else, but according to the house rules for MeatShield, it's a one-time only deal. In my strip, as in my games, story trumps rules every time. :)

Take care,

  1. Of course you need to get rid of the easy ways. Now ya just need to make this too small for any lesser or greater being contacted to note, trips to whichever outer plane he’s in, spells that shown the past… well, et cetera. :/

I read that this was often a problem for Dr Strange writers and why his power level could be so erratic. It gives some credence to complaints of some people who see magic as a cop out, meaning unexplained cause effect. If they are consistent, thyey have to treat Clarkian 3rd law level tech the same way. But real consistency would have to recognize that, except for magic works, that there are magic versions of hard science. The Lord Darcy books mixed tech and scientific magic well. I feel the Ars Magica org provides a pretty decent hard magic system.

Musings at 11pm Sunday night when I do have to get up for work Monday morning.

  2. It’s fine. I seem to recall 3rd Edition was the same way also and in any event the DM always has the right to adjust both the magic and the theology to the needs of his campaign. ^_^

Doesn’t look like the deceased himself is all that concerned anyway! ^_~
