684 – It probably IS his first rodeo

Not that Jaine and Dhur aren't in big trouble, but consider this: this guy is a campus cop at a school for bards and other artsy-fartsy types. The biggest problem he's probably ever had to deal with is breaking up heated arguments between a bunch of drunk undergrads.

BTW, not besmirching the "artsy-fartsy" types - I am one, kinda.

Take care,

  1. I am guessing there will be too many witnesses at the campus cantina confirming Dhur was involved in a drinking contest with the reigning champion of the chug.

  2. Her Mom’s a queen. Her half orc friend is General Dhur. They just saved and freed an entire kingdom. He’s just a kiddy cop and by the looks of it, barely a corporal. While it may be wildly possible that it isn’t his first rodeo, anyone care to place a bet on it being his last?
Btw, Dhur is an axe man, not a spear chucker not to mention what motive would he have? Plus, you have a monk , a paladin as well as a god’s own to alibi Dhur.

  3. C’mon Jaine, the door was a door that was slightly open, it wasn’t a jar. :/ I woulda thought a bard would think of that.

So either the campus cop is lying about this being his first rodeo, ie anything close to murder (if the worst he’s EVER had to deal with is breaking up heated drunken undergrad arguments (but Rob, isn’t this campus also for post-graduates, the stand up BS artists could probably get more heated than the undergrads), or that’s just the worst he dealt with in this job, but he had a prior, ahem, “real” cop job before. He is old enough looking for this to be a retirement job.

  4. So much for the campus being tolerant of minorities. The Social Justice crowd will be calling for his badge before his incompetence gets him in trouble.

  5. This guy strikes me as someone who’s so busy grabbing the bull by the horns, he didn’t even notice it’s actually an ox.

Well, if he was grabbing each one at the tip, I guess he’s the long arm(s) of the law.

Since oxen vary, I am going by this breed because it supports my pun: https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FmPQvp6R.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fimgur.com%2Fgallery%2FMoZdZ&docid=NzIZGlBAqGTXDM&tbnid=AtDIrb1kiwH9GM%3A&vet=10ahUKEwiHqJXej87gAhWVCTQIHTzTBZwQMwgtKAYwBg..i&w=1600&h=1063&bih=979&biw=1920&q=ox&ved=0ahUKEwiHqJXej87gAhWVCTQIHTzTBZwQMwgtKAYwBg&iact=mrc&uact=8

Actually, the joke I was making is that an ox is another name for a castrated bull, and they’re a lot more docile and easy to work with as a result. They’re used as draft and riding animals. So basically the guy’s going in looking for a fight against some classic rage-beast, and what he’s getting is, well, Dhur, who is possibly the sweetest, most even-tempered barbarian in history. 😉

  8. I didn’t even know about the castration thing, I just picture oxen as generally having wider horns. And I just want to make a long arm of the law pun.

As it turned out, the traits that will surprise this guy are bored and *gasp* sophisticated :/ but I won’t spoil the next page any further.
