665 – Leon’s Choice

Before any D&D diehards start talking about the rules being broken here, know a couple of things:
  1. Yes, I do know that Brother Leon is too low in level to be casting Resurrect. He's about 3rd level, whereas casting the Resurrect spell requires the cleric to be 13th level or higher.
  2. This is a D&D-inspired webcomic, not a "by the book" webcomic. If it fits the purpose of the story, I'll bend or break the rules as I see fit. Within reason, of course. :)

Take care,

~Rob

  1. Point 3 his god is bending the rules and warns that there will be consequences.

Leon is channeling divine power that he is 10 levels to low to handle so that could burn him pretty bad.

  2. Which means he’s either going to age rapidly, get a life reset because his god is the one doing the work, he’s just the conduit or either he, Philo or if it can be pulled off both get demonically possessed due to Morridin only watching Philo be brought back to life, not that it is with his actual soul what with Philo not being one of his followers and this leaves Leon open as well.

  3. Furthermore, Rob has proven himself, during the writing of this comic, to be Not A Jerk. Thus, while there will be a price, I doubt it’s going to be more than somewhat tragic at the very worst. Not to mention, Leon’s story so far has been about him trying to prove his professed faith and alignment are his true ones, in spite of his roots. I think this is his Big Damn Hero moment.

  4. GreenTrickster, I do believe you are absolutely right.

And Leon has done faith absolutely right. Unlike Moses, who first begged his God to let him off the hook, and then begged not to have to do any public speaking, Leon stepped right up without any hesitation when his god told him to act.

As for the cost? I suspect Leon is going to lose his clan, and possibly his coloration.

  5. Besides, if any rules lawyers are around, one could argue that the presence of Leon’s god is a massive circumstance bonus booster AND his guidance could count as the presence of a scroll. In 3.5, at least, casters can use magic from scrolls that they would normally be too weak to cast with a caster-level check.

(Can you tell I usually play the party healer and tend to buy resurrection scrolls early, to keep on hand just in case? :B)
