MEATSHIELD - YEAR EIGHT!
Eight years ago today I launched Meatshield.net! Since 2009, a lot has happened, good and bad. I've met (via the Interwebs) a lot of great people, learned a great deal about being a cartoonist and a business owner (still working on that last one), published two books with a third one on the way, lost a parent, and seen my girls go all the way through elementary school and into junior high. Through it all, you folks have been there for me: reading, commenting, and (hopefully) sharing the exploits of the Royal Unnamed Adventuring Company #47. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. :)
Next week, we start Year Nine!
Take care,
~Rob

“No, but there was Clan Bloodforthebloodgod”
Congratulations, time really does fly.
I have been following your comic for a very long time now, roughly around 7 years and I just wanted to thank you for brightening my Fridays with your Comics. I am looking forward to where the adventure will take our heroes next!
@Zarastro: Thanks! I really appreciate that!
Come on, clan Devil-fists may have earned that name because they got really good at fist fighting. Darksmiths could have gotten their name for specializing in blackened steel. Now the Bitter-ores may have got their name because the ore needed to make blackened steel has a bitter taste to it. Perhaps the ore is fine while laying dormant, but as soon as it’s smelted it belches out fumes that cause a person that is constantly exposed to it to become mean, violent, and easily agitated. If this is the case, Brother Leon must not have been exposed to it long enough to effect him as strongly as the others, or he has a higher tolerance to the fumes if he is not immune all together.
Another possibility is that these names weren’t their original names, but were appellations taken – by choice or by curse – after they were known to have gone bad.
(Also, another possibility on the Devilfists could be that they were once really good at fighting devils. In fact, that could well have become the problem, in a he-who-fights-monsters way or otherwise becoming corrupted by those who they once fought.)
Oooh, is our chosen paladin character just a teensy bit bigoted? Judging people based on bloodline is maaaaaaybe not the best thing to do when you’re the guest of a mixed orc-human family….
Possibly more importantly, actually, as long as it can be verified that Brother Leon is a genuine cleric of Moradin, that should probably be enough. Unless there is reason to think that Moradin accepts evil clerics in this game, that should be reasonably clear evidence that Leon is a suitable companion for a paladin of Moradin.
Wondering if the hammer is going to chip in, in fact…
