After the last strip, this one and the one following it, I think I'll be done drawing bookshelves for the foreseeable future. :)
Lyria is the creation of loyal and longtime MeatShield reader Janessa R. Some among you might remember that I had a Patreon campaign running for about a year. By contributing at different tiers, you got different rewards. At the tier Janessa contributed at, she was rewarded with the ability to have either herself, someone she knows, or a character of her own creation make a cameo appearance in the strip! Ergo, the "Semi-reclusive wizard with a limited social life, Lyria Iliathor."
Think you might like in on some of this action? Glad to hear it. I have set a date for the Patreon campaign to resume: May 1st, 2017. I'll be announcing its launch on both the Twitter feed and the MeatShield Facebook page.
See you next week!

Oh cool, a reader cameo 🙂
Looks like we lost an opportunity for some Reader Service in favor of Janie getting some bookreader service. ^_^
Occasionally cameo characters end up with their own side story. In the case of The Wotch and Jeanie bottle some side characters ended up in their own comics, those being Cheer Comic and Melvin.Jeaniebottle.com.
I’m telling ya, teach yourself arm writing. You can find all kinds of instruction at iampeth.com, from the days when office workers wrote all day with dip pens, and typewriters were still making inroads. The forms used for arm writing are mostly in the Rare Books section: https://www.iampeth.com/rare-books
At first, I thought it was Jaine’s mom. Then when their interaction showed this was not the case (among other factors upon closer inspection), I thought it must be an much older Jaine brought to the present through time travel (which is, after all, now an established phenomenon in this comic).
Now you say this character has nothing to do with Jaine? Even though they look so alike? I suspect you’re pulling somebody’s leg here…
Thank you so much, Rob! 🙂
I was so jazzed at the end of last strip – I figured that had to be her! My elven archmage, in print at last! Fear her – and don’t bother her when she’s reading, she hates that. 🙂
To all the other readers: I recently had Rob do a top-flight commission picture of her in a library. So I guess I’m to blame for all the “bookshelf damage” he’s endured recently. Please forward him any potions of healing you may have handy.
To Rob: You should totally put that up on your site here. Show off your skills, and hopefully it will encourage more people to order commissions.
Thanks Again!
Signed up for the Patreon. I am once again an official Archmage of Ardris! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! 🙂
