Look at it this way: if all your people were known for was overeating, running around barefoot, and hanging around with dodgy wizards, you'd be a tad defensive too.
I'm a day late with this, but May 5th was and is a very important holiday in the history of the United States. I'm of course talking about National Cartoonist's Day. Started in 1990, it celebrates the publication of the very first American comic strip, Hogan's Alley, by Richard F. Outcault in 1895.
I bet it's a Federal law or something that you have to shower any cartoonist you happen to know with gifts and libations. I like coffee and books. ;)
Take care,

I guess her cooking isn’t to the level she wants it to be. I am also guessing she is blessed with other talents that most halflings don’t usually have. I can hardly wait to see what kind of talent she does have a knack for.
She might have a talent for multitasking, because I don’t think she’s got one for diplomacy.
Well, I can definitely see that if there was a portal to the City of Shortcuts in the Vast Meadows, Shondella would make sure there was a friendly temple/panderia at the other end. Otherwise Shondella only knows who might come wandering through…
My favorite halfling deity in the Forgotten Realms would be Tymora, who somehow managed to gain a large human following, to the point that later editions seem to have forgotten her adventures with Brandobaris.
Y’know, “You don’t see any shoes on my feet because I wear shoes like a civilized person” is not exactly the same thing as saying “I don’t have fur on my feet.”. So her little rant sounds like a Fast Talk roll to me. ^_~
You know, gluttonous halfling stereotypes notwithstanding, the W’shaa are celebrated as some of the best chefs in the world, right? It stands to reason that the realm which contains all of their greats of the past will have some “really good grub”.
