UPDATE - 6/22/15: My father's interment is scheduled for 7/3/15. I hope to be back at the drawing table by about 7/15/15 or so, after handling the rest of Dad's affairs. Thank you all for the kind and supportive comments. Thank you also to those of you who contributed to the GoFundMe campaign to raise money for my father's services.
I have the best readers in the world. Take care. ~Rob
My father passed away on Saturday. My wife and I were the ones to find him. My family and I are devastated. He was my hero. I need to place MeatShield on an indefinite hiatus, as right now I do not feel terribly funny. I will come back, rest assured. Thank you all for understanding.
~Rob

Take all the time you need. See your dad off with a heroic fanfare and celebrate his passing to the next world by remembering his life and how he lived it. We will be here when you get back.
Praying for you and your whole family for peace and comfort over the next few hours, days weeks months years in the grieving process….
I’ll be praying for you, in the mean time go spend time with your family and do what you feel you need to do. we’ll all be here for you when you get back.
I am so sorry for you. Losing a parent is inevitable but still not something you ever feel ready for.
My deepest sympathies for you and your family. Treasure your memories of him. Tell your children about him, often. And know that one day you will see him again.
Take all the time you need, Rob. Spend your time remembering all the good times you had with him. We will be here when you return. God bless you and yours.
I am sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my father 3 years ago. It still hurts but remember all the good times and honor his memory as best you can. It does help.
Hi Rob
Been reading for a while, first time leaving a message
My dad passed away about a month ago. I have an idea what you’re feeling right now (my dad was also my hero). You take the time you need for your family and for yourself. We will wait as long as it takes.
Peace be with you and yours. 🙂
Rob,
I am so sorry for your loss, and I think I do understand. My father passed away a week ago today; I was with him when he passed. He was my hero, my mentor, my role model, my friend. While I am grateful he is not suffering and has gone on to greater adventures, a loss of someone like that leaves a hole that is hard to fill…I’ve spent the last week alternating among working like a blizzard to get all of the necessary arrangements taken care of, withdrawing from everything and everyone, and actively seeking out activities and friends to fill that hole.
That last part seems to have been the most rewarding, and Dad would want it that way…he was all about living life and would probably kick my butt if I spent TOO much time letting it slip by.
Anyway, nobody can ever say they know exactly what someone else is going through, but I think I can at least relate…thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you find your way to cope with his loss, and, like my friends have been for me, we will all be right here waiting to welcome you when you are ready to step back through that door.
May you find peace in all the good times, and comfort through the hardest ones,
Will
Praying for your family, for peace and strength, in this trying time. I’ve been worrying about my own father lately, as he’s in and out of the hospital for heart troubles, that the docs can’t find any real cause for.
Rob: My sincerest condolences to you and yours. Losing a parent is never easy: especially one who is your hero and role model. Still miss mine too.
No rush, take all the time you need. Me and mine, will be praying for you and yours- and everyone else who seems to have been hit with loss so recently. 🙂
Rob: My condolences and sympathy. I don’t know what to say beyond that. Take all the time you need for yourself and your family. Your comics are fun, and something we all look forward to – but personal and family tragedy trumps everything. Come back when you’re ready – but not before.
As everyone else has said, take the time you need. Do not come back a moment before you’re ready. We will still be here when you get back.
It’s not easy losing someone you really care about. Especially when that person was a huge influence on you. All I can say is to take it day by day. Some days you’ll be “fine” and others will have you breaking down at the slightest thing. That’s pretty much the par for the grieving process and absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.
All caught up!
