509 – May I be Excused?

For that last panel, I had this scene from an otherwise forgettable Disney movie bouncing in my head. In The Emperor's New Groove, a bunch of the villain's thugs get alchemically transformed into animals. One turns into a cow and says, "Umm, excuse me, I'm a cow, can I go home?" Don't know why that stuck with me, other than the sheer absurdity of it.

Got the proof of Book Two in my hands and... hoo boy do I have a lot of mistakes to fix, not least of which is the cover, which got offset by about a quarter of an inch. Come hell or high water, this sucker will be available before Thanksgiving!

Take care,

~Rob

  1. I love that movie – it’s Disney Does Looney Tunes. So many good lines.

“Why do we even HAVE that lever?”

“Get them!” “Um, I’ve been turned into a cow. Can I go home?” “You’re excused – anyone else?” “No, we’re good.” “GET THEM!”

“How did you beat us here?” “I don’t know – how did we get here first, Kronk?” “I don’t know. By all rights, it doesn’t make sense.”

And of course, the most awesome, most inappropriate line in the whole movie:

    “Ah, but I bet you weren’t expecting…”
    “Ah, no!” “NONONO!”
    “THIS!”
    “oh, ok, whew.”

(She has her hand on the hem of her dress, and she raises it… just enough to show the short sword strapped to her leg, to the obvious relief of the heroes.)

It’s so out of character with all their other films. The main plot is quite forgettable, yes, but the lines are awesome.

  2. Yes the Emperors New Groove is out of character with other Disney films. After reading the previous comments, I realized I haven’t seen that movie in some time and it should be watched again.

  3. Ironically have been looking at the concepts that went into that movie before it finally became The Emperors New Grove. The fact that it took such a drastically different turn after issues with the script is probably why I honestly think its one of the more original things to come out of Disney.

  4. “Yayyyy, I’m a llama again!–Oh, wait.”

And the kids! The kids are awesome. And Krunk. Krunk is awesomest. Best Squirrel Scout troop leader ever to squeak a squeaken.

I await the appearance of the real Shanna Slipknot with bated breath. This is going to be epic.

  5. “Yayyyy, I’m a llama again!–Oh, wait.”

Yeah, I thought of that one about 5 minutes after I posted… can’t believe I left it out. It’s the second-best line in the whole movie (after the one I listed above).

  6. Demon llama!

It is one of my favorite comedies. Love it – rewatch it and still giggle. Warburton is just comedy gold!

‘Megamind’ is another that was surprisingly funny.
