Yes, Jaine named her horse "Buttercup." One of my players once named her paladin's warhorse "Althielas" (or something like that - memory's hazy), which translated into Elvish as "Cupcake." True story. :)
Take care,

Death in the Disc World books has a horse named Binky, or at least something close to that. Horses named for food or flowers no problem.
@Nomi: We have a winner! Nomi, you are the first person, in the nearly four years I’ve been drawing this strip, to notice that the duchys in Westhame (except Kilanio) are all rough anagrams of Texas towns.
For Example:
Nitsu’a = Austin
Kobul = Lubbock
Osapal = El Paso
Suropic = Corpus (Christi)
Sadal = Dallas
A’Caw = Waco
Alliram = Amarillo
Brown = Brownsville (okay, that one wasn’t terribly clever, but it worked for story purposes.)
My girls were born in Dallas and my wife is from Houston, so I’m a Texan by marriage. Just a little tip o’ the hat to my second home state. ๐
Even Kilanio could be a (very) rough anagram, almost a cognate, of Killeen, TX.
Now the question is: Can the others hear Jaine talking to her horse, or is she speaking in Horsish? And if they can hear her speaking Common to her horse…do they find it any stranger than her usual behavior? I suppose she could just say “Oh, uh….just talking to my iOun Stone!”

So this fantasy land is anti-Texas? Austin & Lub[b]o[c]k on the road signs.

Love her expression in the last panel, too!
“Horse” == “Zathras”? ๐
