425 – Be glad Sallie Mae isn’t after you too!

I think someone had commented that Jaine tends to poo-poo the idea of looting treasure from dungeons and such, which is a prime motivation for many an adventurer. I've never really addressed it within the strip itself, but she did grow up as royalty, sort of. Jaine has never really had to worry much about money. Thus, money has never held much meaning to her - until now. ;)

Take care,

~Rob

  1. Waaaaaiiiiit…

Rescuing the crown prince of the kingdom, destroying a demonic dragon Sealed Evil In A Can in the process: 20,000 crowns.

Rebuilding an inn, pretty much from scratch: 18,437 crowns (and 49 bits).

Two semesters of tuition, at least some of which you’ve been working on an unsupervised research project: 38,649 crowns.

And people think tuition is expensive now!

  2. Guess daddy doesn’t care to pay for his daughters education. Probably didn’t go to a school he approved of.

  3. She might have to transfer to Silmarillion Musical University, the local barony community college. I hear it’s a real party school, and then Dhur could join a fraternity!

  4. I am wondering what kind of collection agencies are active in a fantasy environment. I am thinking assassins are involved and possibly a curse of infernal debt collector demons tracking you down.

  5. Working as a collection agency types in a fantasy environment might not be a bad start to a campaign, get the characters to know each other before the real questing starts. I’m thinking less Jimmy-Break-Your-Kneecaps and more Sarah Ellis from White Collar. Recover stolen property, earn a commission, and it’s not illegal.

What’s always interested me, however, is to make the PCs postal workers. They’re tasked with delivering a package, and equipped each with a magic ring which prevents them from opening said package, but also guides there directions. Defend against some bandits, work your way into some ethical dilemmas about whether you abandon your tasks or not, and eventually defeat an evil order of assassins called the Tristero.
