Howdy, folks.
Just to clear up any confusion about Mari, since a) it probably won't be mentioned in the strip, and b) people have been conjecturing about her: Mari is a full-blooded elf even though her ears are no bigger than Jaine's. Elves, like all other humanoids, have two things that continue to grow after adolescence: their ears and nose. This is true in the real world - your ears and nose keep growing. Since Elves have much longer lifespans, they have more time for their ears to grow. 'Nuff said.

Sneaky and underhanded, isn’t that elven politics in general? Well I guess you’d run out of really good conversation after about 300 years or so. So devious politics is all you really have left to help you relax.

Except that by my understanding elven leadership in the Meatshield world isn’t based on hereditary, but over who’s the most dangerous wizard around. Considering that most elven terms of respect seem to have something along the lines of “because we don’t want to be vaporised by your relative” in their translation…
As a bard, I feel it is within my very best intrests to keep traditions going. Take a good hard look at the last panel as i say this.

So you can estimate the age of the elf by the length of his/her ears… Never heard of that before but hope it goes standard for fantasy setting.

I was hoping for a good relationship with shared experience between the stepparents. Hope its not the clash of cliche evil stepmother, but less hopeful now.

If I read the Dad’s flashback correctly, he was SUPPOSED to marry Mrs. Wicked Step Mother, but instead ran off with a HUMAN BARD instead. He only married WSM because the Jaine’s mom ran off and he became King of the Elves.
WSM may not like Jaine because she is half-human, because she is a bard, or because she reminds her that she is the KotE’s silver medal/consolation prize/choice of last resort. Or it could be a combination of all of the above.

For the rest of I am sure out Esteemed Artist will come up with s suitably odd and twisted plot for us on this,… I mean seriously look what we have had so far,… a Orc with a sense of humor and morals,..a Bard with a Ioun-Ipad [forget the name right now] ,.. a Gnome who is a Chef and a Reflexologist [and can probably bring you back from death with either one],… a Dwarf with a attitude who seems to like the Green Meat,…. its not like any of the cast is your typical anything,….lol
