Experimenting with a new color palette for the strip. Thought Jaine looked a little washed-out.
INSIDE THE CARTOONIST'S STUDIO...
Last month, I started doing "warm-up" sketches before sitting down to draw a strip. It's kind of like an athlete stretching before competition. Anyway, two sketches I did somewhat recently came out pretty good, if I do say so myself. They are graphite (read:pencil) sketches of Dhur and Jaine drawn in a much more detailed style than I normally draw them. I hope you like them!

That is all :)

I like the new color palette. Bolder colors, stronger characters. That and it’s nice to see the characters in more detail from time to time. In some ways its like the characters are gaining more substance and growing as individuals. Before you know it, the characters will be standing over your shoulder making suggestions or saying “Hey, I wouldn’t do that.” Keep up the excellent work.
I like it.
Great sketches, and love the strip! What kind of sketchbook do you use? Thanks for the ad, btw. π
I’ve replied to you via gmail, but thought it’d behoove me to say something here as well. π Thanks for the compliments, Dave! I use a spiral-bound Canson 9″x12″ sketchbook that is kind of battered, which is key for me: I’ve tried keeping nice book-bound sketchbooks or moleskines and I’ve always been intimidated by them, as though I were going to mess them up somehow. As a result, I could never relax and just enjoy drawing in them. Oh, and you’re welcome for the ad π
She played the clarinet! I play the clarinet!
Excuse me. I must depart to do my
