347 – Like using a Fireball for a flyswatter

So, who wants to cross Sora?

I didn’t think so. πŸ˜‰

Take care,

I find cone of cold to be more satisfying, when you are done you get a nice little trophy to add to your bug collection.

So true, most of the time anyway.

Oh, I would. But then I’m evil.

Brahmir The Bronze on May 21, 2012 @ 11:43 pm

I dupport fireball as the perfect solution, but yet, I.still agree.

And I Would cross her! Mages may spend forever researching spells, but we got defense from other humanoids down a looooooong time ago

FSilvermane on May 21, 2012 @ 11:50 pm

Wow that was some Mr Myagi stuff there,… snatch a fly outta midair without looking,…..wow

Jamming on May 22, 2012 @ 2:41 am

Dhur would cross her
but it be an accident.

Mike Lewis on May 22, 2012 @ 3:34 am

Sora, is also Japanese for Sky and cloud. So I guess she may be all light and fluffy at times and a thundering force of destruction at others. So no, not a good idea to cross her.

Spammy the Wonder Mule on May 22, 2012 @ 3:45 am

If people only stuck with “good ideas” the world would be a boring place, I say crossing her would be fun. πŸ™‚

Stardrake on May 22, 2012 @ 5:38 am

See, the problem with swatting is that you have to swat each fly individually. If you can come up with a spell that will zap any fly that enters your personal space automatically, the time you spent doing that research would pay for itself in one Australian summer.

Stardrake on May 22, 2012 @ 5:41 am

PS Don’t know about anyone else, but I’m getting a ‘high-Charisma social rogue’ vibe from Sora. Leave your reflex save spells at home and bring your Fort-targetting spells if you’re going to cross her.

Spammy the Wonder Mule on May 22, 2012 @ 6:24 am

Ah, the direct approach, perfect way to get yourself killed.

Susie Schroeder on May 22, 2012 @ 10:50 am

I am reminded of the fat guy, Sydney Greenstreet, swatting the fly in “Casablanca”

Stardrake on May 23, 2012 @ 11:20 pm

Well, the best approach is one where your enemy never realises you’re fighting them in the first place… but if it does come to a direct confrontation, it’s better to have the right spells.

TheStratovarian on May 24, 2012 @ 4:48 am

A mage thinks like a mage because they are, a warrior in what he may face, and those of the sly persuasion of what obstacles they face. But a bard, a bard writes history, and you don’t screw with them unless you can make sure they are gone (Far harder than it looks). They can bring you down with never lifting a finger against you, demonize you half a dozen ways with song and music, and bring the people against anyone, because they are the heart and soul of a land. And good use of dramatic tension, but time to call her on this I hope.

Andor on May 24, 2012 @ 5:34 am

Suddenly, the trapped werefly, taking offense at being trapped, rips Sora’s arm off and flings her across the room….cue the “In Soviet Russia…” jokes…

Or perhaps it was a *ahem*…dragonfly?

Okay, I think I’m done now.

I stumbled upon your webcomic yesterday… I am now caught up. Wonderful work. I love how your style has progressed over the years. Can’t wait to see what happens next! Thanks for making a wonderful world with a superb story.

Now here’s the question: Would you mind if gaming groups used the Meat Shield world as the backgroud for their campaigns?

Rob on May 24, 2012 @ 10:30 am

@Geronto: Wow! First time anyone’s ever asked that. As long as it’s for private use, sure, go right ahead. At one point, I was going to include D&D 4E write-ups of Dhur, Jaine and Ch’p in the book, but I was told that the D&D game mechanics were the IP of Wizards of the Coast, so that would get me sued. Other folks recommended Pathfinder instead (since it’s open source), but it seemed like too much of a hassle to throw together and I wanted the book done in time for Black Friday last year, so it didn’t make the cut. Maybe something like that will crop up in Book 2.
BTW, there just might be an Encyclopedia Ardrisia entry detailing all the sentient (i.e. playable as PCs) races on Ardris coming in the near future (as in: I just thought of it). Just one little thing: although I know I often refer to it as “the world of Ardris”, Ardris is actually just a very large continent on a very large planet. Much has yet to be explored….. πŸ™‚

Geronto on May 24, 2012 @ 11:41 am

We have a small gaming group (5 regular players and 3 off and ons.) The world we’ve been playing in for the past few years has gotten stale. I think Ardris would be perfect for our group: we’ve gone from the serious doom and gloom (a few of us started on Old World White Wolf systems) to a lot lighter feel. Thanks and I can’t wait to read more!

If a wizard is using a fireball to kill a fly then he is just showing off.

rematog on August 2, 2012 @ 12:28 pm

After a summer as a draftsman in a factory I got to the point I could kill a flies from 3-4 feet with a rubberband (OK, they had to land, I’m not an elf…)
