383 – Dhur, the Voice of Wisdom.

Annnnnnnnnd we're back! Miss us? :)

As of yesterday, we are completely and totally moved out of both our apartment and our storage unit. Yep, all our junk is now under one roof. Now to find out where we put everything. One thing that I like to do in the aftermath of a move is to treat each box being opened like some sort of present. "Hmm, I wonder what's in this box? A coffee maker and mugs! Just what i always wanted!!" It helps break up the monotony and has the added benefit of making the rest of my family look at me with pity, as though I had some sort of mental deficiency,ย  which is entertaining in its own right.

Take care,

~Rob

  1. Yay!!!!! You’re back! And congrats on making the move! I was still finding stuff packed into boxes 10 years after we moved, so I hope you do better than we did!

  2. Glad Dhur & Co. are back – and that your move is over with! When my wife and I moved, we had a box called “Random S***” – all the random stuff left at the end of the packing process. Pillow, lamp, and stapler? Sweet!!!

    1. @Jason: That sounds a lot like our packing process. Right now, I am looking at a box that has been used in not one, not two, but SIX moves (two of them interstate moves) that has the following scrawled across it:

      Books
      Cookbooks
      Rob’s Cartoons
      Kitchen
      Geneology papers
Random Kid Crap (the most recent label)

You’d think, with the number of times I’ve moved in my lifetime (19 times!! I know!), I would have become better at it, more efficient. Nope. It’s mostly, “Will this fit in that box without breaking anything? No? GOOD.”

  3. Congrats, and welcome back!

By the way, did…did Dhur just almost make SENSE? O_o (As well as display an unusual amount of genre awareness? ;-D )

    Frightening…

  4. I’ve actually moved a couple more times than you, and I’ll probably have to do so again here in a very short while, so I feel your pain.

And does anyone else besides me have a crush on the Snorgtees redhead?

    Oh yeah, nice comic.

I think Dhur just said the most intelligent thing yet. That is rule number one when I played D&D otherwise our DM would get frustrated and try picking off one by one.

    1. @Shade, @Andor: Dhur has his moments, but remember, he’d been “working” as an adventurer long before he met Jaine, so there had been ample time for this one lesson to be pounded into his head Just that one, though. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. The best thing to do is say/do something stupid and follow it through with something really profound and/or really intelligent. Quantum sciences are good for this but generally anything deeply philosophical will do as well.

It’s a great way to screw with ignorant neurotypicals who think that all people on the autism spectrum have an IQ of 50. Yes they exist unfortunately because I keep running into them.

  7. You know, I now kind of wonder about the shading in that last panel and what it means. Perhaps Dhur has some experience in this area? Perhaps he took up adventuring after failing at customer service in a perfume shop?

  8. Ok,…my “set up” warning bells are off the chart,…. all I heard in my head when Philo “spoke” in this comic was a very creepy “I’m trying to sound innocent and failing miserably because I am luring you into a trap” voice. Hearing Riker went out the window,..Philo just became kinda creepy. Admittedly, it might just be Philos way of getting Jaine away from everyone else to have some alone time a’la Peppe Le Pew,..but still just came across creepy.

  9. Wow….thanks, Oar. That’s a GREAT mental image – Dhur as one of those spritzers at a department store:

Dhur: “Uhh HEY! Wanna try this new perfume, ‘Sweat in Summertime’?” *squirt*
Unsuspecting Victim: “AUGHHH!!! MY EYE! I CAN’T SEE!”
Dhur: “Aw jeez, sorry about that! Uh…here, lemme get that out for ya, hold still and quit cryin’ wouldya?…”
    Victim: “ARRRGGHH!”

    Hehe…

  10. You don’t have to be brilliant to be a decent tactician. I am sure Dhur has at least learned a little bit about “The Art of War” in his time as an adventurer. Just the fact he’s survived so long means he has some sence.

  11. Dhur, ye speak the truth buddy. My 4e DM keeps a seperate table for when the party splits, and they’re all solo monsters at least 4 levels higher then us.

  12. Philo, it’s not wandering into a perfume shop; it’s wandering into the perfume shop and getting jumped by the bad guys when he fails to bluff them. Or other mistake if it’s someone else that wanders into the perfume shop. Then the bad guys know someone’s on to them, and they have an advantage because one of the party is already dead.

  13. Glad you are done moving Rob! It is never fun! Every time I move I swear I’m gonna hire someone, but it hasn’t happened yet. The last couple of Times I’ve moved have been in the worst summer heat in my home state’s history. Moving not fun period; moving in 110 degree heat, even worse!
And NEVER split up the group! Number 1 rule of DnD!

  14. soooooo how’s the thing going with the preditor, have you been able to sort that out? and condolances on having to move, that’s one of the most stressful thing one has to do.

    1. @Futbolcoach – I’m okay, just still trying to find things in this house… like my scripts notebook. Found it in a box marked “random crap from living room.” Not where I expected it to be. ๐Ÿ™‚
