467 – No one expects the Gelatinous Cube!

Thus ends the short life of Poxgut, son of Wartfinger. In lieu of flowers, contributions may instead be made to KHA, Kobold Hipsters Anonymous, in order to fund the much needed work they do in the kobold community.

BTW, for the D&D purists out there: Yes, I do know that gelatinous cubes are transparent, not aqua. In this world, they're aqua. So there. ;)

Finally, this almost flew right past me: Yesterday (as I write this) was the 40th anniversary (sort of) of Dungeons and Dragons!

Take care,

~Rob

  1. Better get him out of that gelatinous cube before he dissolves then.

Looking at that cube, a few chemicals and a solidifying agent and you got yourself one big block of deodorant.

  2. Two questions: First, who is the idiot that let the NPC lead the way? Second, why do the NPC’s you have to protect always seem to go out of their way to get themselves killed?

Also, in case you are wondering, the key to keeping NPC’s alive involves the following: 1 Set of Mithril Manacles, 50ft of rope, a 10ft pole, 1 Ring of Sustenance, 1 Bottle of Air, and 1 Bag of Holding.

  3. I have to say, of all D&D monsters, the gelatinous cube wins for me as the “weirdest of them all”. A giant goo monster that absorbs and dissolves hapless adventurers like the Blob, that makes perfect sense. But a giant goo monster shaped like a cube? Why?

Also, Green Lantern battery? I call Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

  4. And that, Students, is why you ALWAYS watch where you are going during a Dungeon crawl! You NEVER know what lurks in the shadows.

  5. So. A Gelatinous Cube. What do cubes have? Cubes have Roots. The Roots are a band which, no doubt, hipsters *used* to like, but don’t really pay attention to anymore. As such, if Poxgut wasn’t so dismissive of music which becomes popular, he’d still be alive.

That’s right, folks. Being a hipster is fatal.

  6. Greetings from the island Of Trinidad, West Indies.
Stumbled upon your web-comic and just finished reading through……..
I must say, I’ve honestly enjoyed reading your work, there were times I actually laughed to myself at the instances of humour interspersed throughout the archives…………….
Please continue with your efforts and thank you for bringing a smile to the face of an old Rosoff (wolf)

  7. Prediction: this will be where Philonoth’s shapeshifting ability is revealed to the group at large, as he impersonates Poxgut to fool Cheef.
